Velma was easy. I've drawn her so many times now, that the only hard bit was getting her expression right to fit the mood of the picture.
The Joneses were far harder. I used reference photos for both of them (several in both cases) but the hard bit was getting a recognisable likeness (Henry is better than Indy) and the expressions I wanted while using a line drawing style that I wouldn't instinctively use on a picture of a real person. I still think I used too many lines to make the faces, but it was as few as I could personally get away with and still get the picture to work.
The lighting really brought the picture together and transformed the image from 3 pictures of people to 1 picture of 3 people.
One bit of the picture I didn't cite a source for was the back edge of the sarcophagus. It started out as a photo of a 6-inch long section of a wall in my garden post-processed to fit in with the manipulations I had applied to the background and the skeleton. In retrospect, the lip should have shown a bit more wear and damage.
